# Offline install — all devices (phone, tablet, PC)

Works from a **hosted https link** (Netlify / GitHub Pages). Opening a local `file://` copy does **not** get updates later.

The Field app, desktop report, and portal all use the same offline cache. Install once on each device you use in the field.

## iPhone / iPad (Safari)

1. Open the hosted link in **Safari**.
2. Open **Velocity Report** (Field app).
3. Tap **Share** (square with ↑) → **Add to Home Screen** → **Add**.
4. Use the **Velocity Report** icon offline.

## Android (Chrome)

1. Open the hosted link in **Chrome**.
2. Tap menu **⋮** → **Install app** or **Add to Home screen**.
3. Or tap **Install app** in the Offline card when it appears.
4. Use the home-screen icon offline.

## Windows / Mac / Linux (Chrome or Edge)

1. Open the hosted link in **Chrome** or **Edge**.
2. Click the **install** icon in the address bar, or menu → **Install Velocity Report**.
3. Or click **Install app** in the Offline card.
4. Launch from the Start menu / Applications / taskbar — works offline.

## Mac Safari

- Safari 17+: **File → Add to Dock** if available.
- For a full installable offline app, use **Chrome** or **Edge** → Install on the same https link.

## Firefox

- Caches pages after you visit on https (offline reopen often works).
- For an installable app icon, use Chrome or Edge → Install.

## When you have signal again

- Open the installed app (or the https link) while online.
- Cached files refresh in the background.
- If a new version was published: **Update ready — tap to refresh**.
- Or tap **Check for updates**.

Your traverse data stays on **that device** (`localStorage`).
